Logic Puzzles
Every morning this week during my start-of-day prayer/pondering/study time (not that these things are confined to only that time of day, but I find I’m less stressed in general and more prepared for the day when I start it this way, and it’s been particularly clear this week that the Spirit can guide me to exactly the words in scripture which will bring the most comfort and direction each day), Llama has climbed in bed next to me with this book of logic puzzles. Man, some of these puzzles are tricky! But her logical brain loves them so much—reasoning through each clue, marking the obvious deductions and mulling over the less obvious ones until the solution becomes clear. For some puzzles, she needs a little help, but my brain cannot multitask, so I occasionally take a break and we work through a puzzle together.
This logic puzzle book was published in England, and as a result there are sometimes phrases or words I’m unfamiliar with. Add that to the increasing difficulty of puzzles as we progress through the book, and sometimes my brain really just needs a break—to leave the puzzle for a while and come back to it later with fresh eyes. Finally solving a tough one is so satisfying, though.
Lately when I wonder what exactly God’s plan is and how these experiences could be for my good, I’m astounded by the behind-the-scenes orchestration He must have set in motion long before the final result will ever become visible. Two pieces I believe are integral to God’s plans panning out are angels and miracles. And let me tell you: they are REAL!
Today alone has been a testament of the reality of those two things to me. Today felt much longer than its allotted 24 hours. I saw so many angels and miracles:
an angel nurse whose compassionate attention and observation led him to notice something small which inspired an impactful discovery;
an angel doctor whose willingness to say “Let’s run more tests” and “I need time to think” allowed space for inspiration and led to a more complete understanding;
another angel whose timely visit and perfect words gave more comfort than she realized;
an angel friend with an understanding heart who constantly reminds me of the beauty that comes from broken things when my own vision becomes myopic;
heavenly angels felt in the gaps in-between, heavenly hugs when earthly ones are too physically distant;
a miraculous, timely change in hospital policy just this morning which allowed for a needed priesthood blessing to happen;
a miracle disguised as a setback, which led to more answers than the day started with.
There are so many small, everyday miracles that I can’t keep track of all of them, but when I take time to notice them, the number is astonishing! There are so many moving pieces—it’s like a dynamic, infinitely massive logic puzzle—and God designed all these relationships and connections so intricately that we can’t even see them all as they happen, let alone predict where or when they will come. But answers to prayers come. God will send help. He cares, and He intervenes and acts in our stories—in the details of our lives.
